Our first Little Flower® Winter Literacy Camp was held today from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm for 9th and 10th graders and we’ve got a full house of excited registered participants. By the end of the camp, Little Flower had encouraged them all to:
1. Demonstrate empathy; ethical decision-making and social responsibility;
2. Demonstrate social maturity and behaviors appropriate to the situation and environment;
3. Demonstrate effective coping skills when faced with a problem; and
4. Demonstrate the ability to work independently, as well as the ability to work cooperatively with other students.
The camp tuition was free thanks to individuals and businesses who stepped up to sponsor the students. In addition to a day full of literacy and life coursework and discussions, the camp provided breakfast, lunch. and awesome snacks. I participated in an Author Talk via Skype.
Facilitated by the phenomenal NC Curriculum and Instruction Executive, Dr. Takeda LeGrand and her awesome team at DCS (Diversified Comprehensive Solutions), tomorrow is poised to be an exciting day of fun, food, and LITERACY.
